MAYORS CAMPAIGN

Mayors Campaign Against HIV

In observance of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), mayors throughout the United States have been asked to publicly support NHTD by hosting HIV testing campaigns in their cities, conducting press conferences to discuss local HIV testing resources, issuing proclamations in support of NHTD, and, modeling good behavior by receiving an HIV test to illustrate how important knowing your HIV status is to your health. National Association of People With AIDS (NAPWA) and a private sector partner will distribute 10,000 complimentary rapid oral HIV tests to the cities participating in the Mayors Campaign Against AIDS. For 2009, more than 100 mayors will be participating in the initiative.

Governors’ HIV Testing Initiative

National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) works closely with NAPWA to implement the Governors’ HIV Testing Initiative in observance of NHTD. Governors have been asked to strengthen their State’s capacity to provide HIV testing and services through this campaign that mobilizes the State AIDS Directors and Health Departments. A private sector partner will donate 10,000 rapid oral HIV tests that will be distributed to HIV Testing facilities in participating States. For 2009, Ohio and New Jersey will be participating in the initiative.
